The Boghossian Foundation is temporarily closed and will reopen on October 22 with the exhibition Soleil Noir. See you soon!

To mark its 15th anniversary in 2025, the Boghossian Foundation is presenting a series of editions, known as B2. These editions are designed in collaboration with multidisciplinary artists who have a special relationship with the Villa Empain, either by exhibiting there or participating in a research residency. The collection of high-quality art prints – lithographs, engravings, inkjet prints, or screen prints – is designed in close collaboration with the artists.

The editions will be produced each year, exclusively in Belgium. Each work is numbered and signed by the artist and is published in an edition of 100 copies in a unique B2 format (50 x 70 cm).

All proceeds from the sales of the B2 editions go directly to supporting the Villa Empain residency programme.

Anastasia Bay

Bay’s work presents a fresh vision of the human figure. The artist draws inspiration from art history, folk imagery, and mythology. She extracts her figures to emphasise their gestures, attitudes, struggles, and burdens. By isolating these figures in an abstract environment through flat tones without perspective, the artist dispels narrative and historicity. In this new form of figuration, where figures nearly fill the picture plane, an additional element of mystery and strangeness arises from these figures’ lively, jerky movements and contorted postures, whose bodies and faces are only faintly outlined.

La Soprano (original: oil, acrylic, and pastel on canvas) is a portrait of a performer from a series of paintings, costumes, and music created in 2024 under the name Maestra Lacrymae.

Anastasia Bay (1988, France), a graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, lives and works in Brussels. For the exhibition House of Dreamers (Boghossian Foundation, 2023), she created a monumental fresco, Banquet and Bacchannales, which spread across the walls of the salons in the Villa Empain. In 2024, Maestra Lacrymae’s performance at BOZAR merged popular carnival with ancestral myths, described by La Libre Belgique as ‘a contemporary fresco. Moving and spectacular’. Her work is part of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris collection and will feature in the group exhibition Painting after Painting at the SMAK (2025).

Ulla Hase

Ulla Hase is a German artist residing in Brussels. She is renowned for her pen drawings and is intrigued by inquiries into physical and intellectual knowledge.

She creates interfaces by modelling her subjects’ temporal and spatial dimensions. Her perception of the real and mediated environment condenses into large-format pen drawings. These contemplative and sculptural works emphasise the artist’s personal realm of experience, parallel to the digital flow of images and information.

‘In my drawings, I engage both my body and my thoughts within the space-time of the drawing process itself. Drawing acts as a means of transforming the line – a physical and mental space in motion. This interaction of hand and mind on paper allows me to deepen and organise my emotions. The lines I draw materialise the smallest changes that gradually evolve into significant ones. There are gaps, small interruptions, and irregularities that can range from the fragility of the lines to the bleeding of the ink.’

Ulla Hase (1966, Kiel, Germany) lives and works in Brussels. In 2023, she was an artist in residence at the Boghossian Foundation.

Recent exhibitions include Liquid Ice at Fundaziun Nairs LAB (Scuol, Switzerland, 2024); Multiple Silences at Odradek Gallery (Brussels, 2023); the Guangzhou Contemporary Art Fair with Odradek (Guangzhou, China, 2023); Gardening by the Moon at Mont-de-Piété (Brussels, 2023); and Beyond the Lines at the Boghossian Foundation – Villa Empain (Brussels, 2024).

Agathe Bokanowski

Agathe Bokanowski’s work explores themes related to the memory of places and their emotional significance. Inspired by photographs taken during her walks, she creates charcoal drawings. These landscapes evolve into intimate spaces where memories and universal atmospheres converge, revealing delicate personal territories. Her work is grounded in the contrast between the immediacy of photography and the slowness of the creative process, a tension that invites the viewer to pause and reflect. Through a meticulous approach, she intertwines narratives within landscapes, confronting individuals with nature and their relationship with time.

Agathe Bokanowski (1980, France) is a draughtswoman, painter, and illustrator residing and working in Paris. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, her work has been exhibited at the Musée Maillol, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Petit Palais in Paris. In 2023, she spent a year in residence at the Boghossian Foundation, where she conceived the Meyboom exhibition, inspired by the nearby Bois de la Cambre. The works she created during her residency reflected her interest in natural cycles and the preservation of forest landscapes.
