The Boghossian Foundation is temporarily closed and will reopen on October 22 with the exhibition Soleil Noir. See you soon!

The Boghossian Foundation is proud to present the works of the 2024 International Prize laureates. Bringing together three distinctive creative worlds, this exhibition celebrates the creativity of Kate Crawford and Vladan Joler, Kim Mupangilaï, and Joy Harvey — this year’s laureates in the fields of Visual arts, Design and Crafts, and Jewellery.

Through their work, each contributes to fostering greater mutual understanding between cultures.

In the garden of the Villa Empain,  the monumental work of Kate Crawford et Vladan Joler, international researchers and artists, unfolds. Their research exposes the social, environmental, and economic costs of AI. The striking installation Calculating Empires stretches across 23 meters. Through this exceptional cartography, the artists examine five centuries of colonialism, automation, and centralization. The project interrogates the networks of labour, resources, and control that shape our connected world.

In the former Secretary of the baron Empain, the creations of Kim Mupangilaï and Joy Harvey explore the dialogue between heritage and innovation.

Kim Mupangilaï, a Belgian-Congolese designer, merge the aesthetics of Belgian Art Nouveau with Congolese art to sketch out new cultural narratives. The Bina Chair (2023) made from teak, raffia, and volcanic stone, challenges perceptions of balance and stability, embodying the fusion of her cultural heritage. Also made from teak, with a banana fibre paper lampshade, the Bina Lamp (2023) is a tribute to the spirit and heritage of African women. It offers an abstract celebration of precolonial African hairstyles, which symbolise identity and beauty.

Joy Harvey’s jewellery, meanwhile, weaves together Florentine goldsmithing, Armenian techniques, and digital innovation. Flower wreath showcases her mastery of both traditional and modern techniques. The wreath contrasts the polished, golden ideal of beauty with the natural, imperfect brass flowers, symbolizing the complementary relationship between youth and aging. In the former Secretary, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and other creations – testaments to her most recent collection – will also be unveiled.
