Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan: what peace?

The Boghossian Foundation is pleased to welcome political scientist Bertrand Badie, one of the leading specialists in international relations, for a reflection on peace in Europe and around the world.

Global suffering, planetary crises: how can we imagine a form of peace that has yet to be truly conceived? Peace is not the absence of war; it is something else entirely. In other words, in a world in transition, what does peace mean today, and what does it mean to make peace and to live in peace?

In conversation with Le Monde journalist Gaïdz Minassian, Bertrand Badie shares his insights on the conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan.

Bertrand Badie is Professor Emeritus at Sciences Po Paris and one of the foremost experts in the study of global affairs. Author of more than fifty works on the sociology of international relations, including L’Art de la paix, neuf vertus à honorer et autant de conditions à établir (Flammarion, 2024), the political scientist, a specialist in globalisation, has long explored the dialectic of peace and war from an intersocial perspective. His research encompasses a wide array of subjects, including civil societies, the diplomacy of non-state actors, human security, humiliation, conflicts arising from social extraction, relations between the West and the rest of the world, logics of social integration, and the struggle against exclusion.

Gaïdz Minassian is a journalist for Le Monde and teaches at the Paris Institute of Political Studies.
