Syria: The Assads Have Fallen, What Now?

The Boghossian Foundation is honoured to welcome Ziad Majed, a prominent expert on the Middle East, for a discussion on the future of Syria following the collapse of the Assad dynasty in December 2024, which marked the end of over fifty years of dictatorship. Amid the disintegration of the state, a faltering economy, a devastated society, a demographic crisis, and the aftermath of civil war, can Syria recover and look towards the future with optimism? This invaluable discussion will provide a deeper understanding of the challenges and prospects as the country strives to rebuild itself.

Ziad Majed is a Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at the American University of Paris, specialising in Lebanese, Syrian, and Arab affairs. His research explores political transitions and regional crises. Since 1994, he has actively engaged in research and advocacy regarding political processes and civil society reform in Lebanon and other Arab countries. Dr Majed frequently contributes to both international and Arab media, along with various academic journals. He is the author of several books, including “Dans la tête de Bachar-Al-Assad,” published by Actes Sud in 2018, which he co-authored with Farouk Mardam-Bey and Subhi Hadidi.
