Jean-Michel Othoniel, stories and creations

As part of the Diary of Happiness exhibition, the Boghossian Foundation welcomes Jean-Michel Othoniel for a conversation about his work. Bringing together around a hundred creations, the exhibition draws its inspiration from thirty years of travels across the world.

Discover the universe of the artist, between travel stories, the genesis of his works and the behind the scenes of the conception of this exhibition that is both monumental and deeply personal. This conversation, hosted by Chantal Pattyn, channel director of Klara, is conceived as a sensitive journey through the artist’s creative and imaginative process, from spectacular sculptures to intimate watercolours.

The lecture will be followed by a poster and catalogue signing session.

Born in 1964 in Saint-Étienne in France, Jean-Michel Othoniel has been developing a singular body of work since the late 1980s, at the crossroads of sculpture, architecture and landscape. His work, often monumental, inhabits museums, gardens and urban spaces worldwide, with the ambition of poeticising and re-enchanting reality. In 2025, his exhibition Othoniel Cosmos ou les Fantômes de l’Amour in Avignon, spread throughout the entire city, attracted nearly one million visitors. He is member of the Académie des beaux-arts since 2021 and continues to pursue numerous projects across the world.

Chantal Pattyn is director of the cultural radio station Klara and an art historian.
